On the defaults — a furnace-and-AC changeout, ducts reused, $300 permit — the budget is $5,300 to $11,300. New ductwork on the same survey is a $2,000 to $5,000 extra line (the gap between “replacement” at $5,000–$11,000 and “with ductwork” at $7,000–$16,000). Federal §25C is $0 for property placed in service after 31 December 2025. This is a budget range, never a quote.

Questions this calculator answers

How much does HVAC replacement cost?
HomeGuide’s 2026 survey puts a furnace-and-AC changeout at $5,000 to $11,000 installed, and a system with new ductwork at $7,000 to $16,000. Those are quoted-price bands, not your bid. Type the rate off a proposal to audit it.
Why is the range so wide?
Because published figures are surveys of quotes, and they disagree. Tonnage, efficiency tier, access and duct condition move the number more than the brand on the box.
Does this include a tax credit?
No. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (§25C) is not available for property placed in service after 31 December 2025. Utility rebates are separate and are not modelled here.
Is this a quote?
No. It cannot see static pressure, line-set reuse, panel capacity or what the permit desk will charge. Use it to tell whether a bid is in the neighbourhood, then compare written proposals with model numbers.
