About HyreHVAC
HyreHVAC is an independent heating and cooling guide for US homeowners. We do no HVAC work, hold no contractor license and employ no technicians.
We publish research built on federal and state data, and we are building a route to local HVAC companies, who we expect to pay for inquiries. Judge everything here against that incentive.
Why does HyreHVAC exist?
Heating and cooling equipment fails on its own schedule, usually in the weather that makes it urgent, and almost always to somebody who has never bought one before.
The information available at that moment is mostly produced by people selling equipment. It is not usually false. It is selective in a direction, and the direction is consistently the same one.
So we publish the other half: what actually drives a quote, which federal rules apply to your equipment and which ones do not, how long this equipment really lasts, and what separates a diagnosis from a guess.
What does the site contain?
Five sections, each a claim you can check by clicking.
- Research studies built on federal and state datasets — EIA, DOE, EPA and state licensing boards — each stating its method, its limits and the date its sources were retrieved.
- Calculators that show their working. Every one discloses its inputs, its assumptions and what it cannot tell you.
- Incentive guides that quote the statute rather than a summary of it, including where a program has ended.
- Service guides explaining what a job involves and how to read a quote for it.
- State pages covering the licensing regime and the climate driver that changes the specification where you live.
What is HyreHVAC not?
Five statements we would rather publish than have you assume the opposite.
- Not a contractor. We perform no HVAC work, hold no contractor license, and employ no technicians.
- Not a ranking service. There is no HyreHVAC score, tier or badge. We publish no "best HVAC companies" list, because we hold no methodology that would make such a list mean anything.
- Not an endorsement. Passing your inquiry to a company is not a recommendation of that company. See how we vet.
- Not a warranty or a guarantee. Any contract is between you and the company you choose. We are not a party to it.
- Not a price quoter. We publish no invented cost ranges. Where we have no dataset of real invoices, we say so and give you a tool that works from the quote you were actually handed.
How does HyreHVAC make money?
The intended commercial model is that HVAC companies pay to receive homeowner inquiries submitted through this site.
That creates an obvious incentive to tell you to replace things. The only real answer is what the pages say.
The test: our repair or replace guidance often concludes that repair is the better choice. Our incentive pages say plainly that the federal §25C credit has ended. Our refrigerant pages tell readers that an installation deadline they are being sold against was withdrawn.
Payment buys inquiries. It does not buy a recommendation, a ranking, editorial coverage or a change to a conclusion.
How is the research done?
Primary sources first. Where a figure exists in a federal dataset we use the dataset rather than somebody’s summary of it, and we print the retrieval date so you can tell how old it is.
Where a regulation is involved we read the provision itself. Rules move: the R-410A installation deadline that drove purchasing through 2025 was removed by a later EPA rule, and a page repeating the old deadline from memory would be confidently wrong.
Where no source supports a number, the number does not appear. We write the shorter honest page instead of padding it to a length.
