This repair, as a fraction of a replacement

We do not ship a capacitor price. We take the quote you were given, add the diagnostic, and show it against the replacement number you type. The failure type is a sentence about what kind of job this usually is.

Your quotes not a parts catalogue Published “average repair” tables are contractor-lead surveys with no line-item provenance we can defend. This tool refuses to invent $250 capacitors. Type the number on the invoice.

Enter the diagnostic, the repair quote and a replacement quote. The output is the total, the percentage of replacement, and a plain-English note on the failure type — a capacitor is usually a same-visit part; a compressor is the usual fork into replacement. Diagnostic fees are often credited if you proceed with the same firm. Ask.

Questions this calculator answers

How much does AC repair cost?
Whatever is on the quote in front of you. A diagnostic is commonly a separate line, often credited against the repair if you stay with that firm. This page will not invent a national capacitor price.
When is a repair actually a replacement?
When the repair is a large fraction of a changeout, remaining life is short, or the failed part is a compressor, coil or heat exchanger. Open the repair-vs-replace tool with the same two numbers.
Should I recharge without a leak search?
No. Refrigerant is not consumed. A low charge is a leak. Recharging without finding it is how a small problem becomes a compressor.
